UPGRADE PONSEL

Anda ingin mengatasi ponsel yang sering hang? Ingin mempercepat respon ponsel? Ingin mendapatkan beberapa fitur baru? Atau malah ingin merubah tampilan menu tanpa harus mengganti ponsel dengan yang baru?

Semua pertanyaan di atas berkaitan dengan software ponsel. Salah satu cara menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan di atas, dapat dilakukan dengan melakukan upgrade firmware.

Pada dasarnya, ponsel bisa disamakan dengan Personal Computer (PC), yang memiliki dua bagian penting, yaitu hardware dan software. Dua bagian ini merupakan satu kesatuan yang utuh, tidak bisa bekerja sendiri-sendiri.

Software pada PC terdiri dari sistem operasi dan sistem aplikasi. Begitu pula pada ponsel, memiliki sistem operasi dan aplikasi. Sistem operasi pada ponsel inilah yang dinamakan firmware, yang merupakan pusat segala sistem operasi.

Firmware adalah suatu software yang disimpan dalam hardware untuk melakukan pembacaan (reading) dan pengeksekusian suatu software tertentu tetapi ia tidak dapat dihapus secara langsung oleh pengguna. Firmware ini disimpan di ROM (Read Only Memory) yang secara langsung terintegrasi dalam suatu chip (IC). Terkadang firmware ini juga disimpan dalam EEPROM (Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory). Firmware ini bukanlah suatu software aplikasi.

Keuntungan upgrade firmware:

kinerja sistem operasi menjadi lebih optimal, Mendapatkan fitur-fitur serta aplikasi-aplikasi baru. Selain itu juga kita dapat memiliki ponsel dengan seri lama tetapi mempunyai kemampuan, tampilan atau kinerja, layaknya ponsel baru.

Proses upgrade ini beresiko sebab bila gagal kemungkinan terburuknya ponsel bisa mati total.

NOTES : Setiap ponsel memiliki spesifikasi dan jenis software yang berbeda.

Perangkat Yang Dibutuhkan Untuk Mengupgrade Firmware

1. NOKIA

Perangkat upgrade, termasuk untuk perbaikan software ponsel-ponsel Nokia umumnya disebut flasher. Flasher untuk ponsel Nokia paling banyak tersedia di pasaran. Tapi yang jelas produk ini buatan pengembang independen bukan dari Nokia.

Produk yang tersedia untuk Nokia yang paling banyak digunakan adalah Griffin. Selain untuk mengupgrade, Griffin juga memiliki fitur seperti:

Full Flashing semua type Nokia (DCT3, DCT4, WD2 & DCTL)
Rubah bahasa (full language pack)
Memperbaiki Mati Total (jika karena masalah software)
Memperbaiki "Contact Service"
Memperbaiki "Phone Restricted"

Selain Griffin, Prodigy juga cukup dikenal para pelaku service ponsel. Sayangnya harga perangkat ini terbilang mahal, sekitar Rp. 3 jutaan.

Untuk ponsel Sony Ericsson, perangkat upgrade yang cukup populer adalah Sony Ericsson Fighter.

There are two ways to connect a pair of speakers together. You can have series or parallel. Easy enough?

What happens when you hang that twin speaker extension cab off your 1 x 12"?? Hmm... gets a bit more complicated. I've put together an Excel 5 spreadsheet which caters for many different wiring combinations of 2, 3, and 4 speakers.

Given the power output of the amp, it will work out the total impedance that the amp "sees", and will work out the individual power within each speaker. It has pictures of the different configurations within the spreadsheet, so you can use these as a reference for wiring the speakers up too....

• Tone Stack calculator

The Tone Stack calculator is designed to help you check out the design and response curves of a variety of tone stacks used in popular guitar amplifiers. It is intended to be of interest to amplifier technicians, amp modifiers, hobbyists and students.

Key features

Tone stack types: Fender modern, Vox, Marshall, James (passive predecessor to Baxandall), Fender E series, Steve Bench tone stack, and now the Big Muff tone stack used in FX units. Simply click on the appropriate tab to bring up a different schematic.

Components: Values can be altered simply by double-clicking on the component. With potentiometers, the taper can also be altered. The generator source impedance can be altered to give realistic simulation results for both cathode followers and common cathode drivers.

Bass/Mid/Treble: Slide the controls along and see the changes to the tone stack response in real time.
Snapshots: Freeze any trace so it can be overlaid by other traces. Up to a maximum of 12 traces can be frozen in this way. Can sweep the controls to show the range.

File Open/Save: Keep your favourite configurations on disk with this new facility.
Printing: Send the graphical results to your printer for a hard copy.

• ESP Transistor Data

This is a small program to find transistor data. Not everything is listed (1442 different devices). Download a copy, place it into the directory of choice and run the program, which is a self extracting archive. There are two extracted files - ESP-TRAN.EXE and BIPOLAR.TXT, being the executable and database respectively. ESP-SEMI.EXE may be deleted after extraction unless you want to give a copy to someone else. New stuff can be added as you find the data. If you add a lot of stuff, feel free to e-mail me a copy of the new database (compressed, please!), and I will add it to the database file.

For users who eschew Windows, the text file is still useful, as it can be read with any text editor or even a spreadsheet (TAB delimited format). Be careful with spreadsheets, as they like to try to convert some data into dates (really useful - not!).
